About the Band
The Flowerhead Folks
Rochester, New York
Wedding Band - Party Band - Cover Band
The Flowerhead Folks is a Rochester-based cover band playing hit music spanning the past 50+ years. If you attend a show, you will feel the urge to get up out of your seat and dance or, at the very least, sing along. Come to a Live Karaoke show for the opportunity to join the band as the lead singer for a song of your choice!
What sets The Flowerhead Folks apart from the rest? Four out of five band members are college-trained, multi-instrumentalist, professional musicians who also happen to be music teachers.
Formed in 2016, The Flowerhead Folks have played at a variety of venues throughout the Rochester Area, including Sager-Stoneyard Pub, Johnny's, Heroes Brewing Company, DisBatch Brewing Company, Murph's Irondequoit Pub, Lock 32 Brewing Company, Seven Story Brewing Company, Rochester Beer Park, Peacemaker Brewing Company, ROAR (Pride 2021), Radio Social, Photo City Music Hall, Three Heads Brewing, K2 Brothers Brewing, Lakesiders, Preservation Beer Company, Hot Shots Volleyball, Knucklehead Craft Brewing, Abilene Bar & Lounge, Birdhouse Brewing Co., Long Acre Farms, Pelican's Nest, and Fairport Canal Days.
Becky Fox
Vocals - Trumpet - Shaky Thingies - Keyboards - Drumset
Musical Influences: Richard Cheese, Alanis Morisette, Lizzo, TALK, Yebba, Janelle Monae, Cass Elliot, Milli Vanilli.
Get ready to meet the one and only Becky Fox, our vocal powerhouse with a personality as big as her vocal range! From her early days in band, chorus, and school musicals, it was clear that Becky was destined to bring the house down with her awe-inspiring talents. Armed with her clarinet and a voice that could make angels weep (or laugh uncontrollably), she pursued her passion, majoring in clarinet at college and somehow finding time to belt it out with the coolest acappella group in town, A Sharp Arrangement. But that's not all, folks! When she's not busy hitting those high notes and slaying clarinet solos, Becky takes on the monumental task of molding young minds as a music teacher and fearlessly leading a marching band - along with Scott - with unwavering confidence (seriously, she must have nerves of steel).
With a personality as vibrant as her vocal cords, Becky is ready to unleash her musical prowess, infusing every performance with her infectious energy and larger-than-life talent.
Dominic Pickard
Electric/ Acoustic Guitar - Bass Guitar - Vocals
Musical Influences: Ben Folds, Ben Harper, Damien Rice, The Avett Brothers, The Black Crowes, The Black Keys, The Civil Wars, The Head and the Heart, The Wood Brothers, and Watchhouse.
As a classically trained tuba player, Dominic dreamed of being a frontman for a cover band. Citing challenges with singing and playing the tuba simultaneously and wanting to end the awkward "one time at band camp" shtick, he ditched the Oom-Pah-Pahs for the guitar. As the band continued to evolve, he returned to his roots to hold down the low end on the bass guitar. He has since returned to playing guitar and, through much peer pressure, has even started playing solos.
Dominic is a founding member of The Flowerhead Folks. As a prior music teacher and current school district arts administrator, he takes great pride in leading by example and being an active musician within the local community. His favorite performances are the ones that support local charities, especially the Rochester Education Foundation's Arts for All Fund.
Anastasia Polashenski
Keyboards - Saxophone - Melodica - Vocals
Musical Influences: Amanda Palmer, Ben Folds, David Bowie, Death Cab for Cutie, Fall Out Boy, Manchester Orchestra, Moon Hooch, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Regina Spektor, Too Many Zooz, and The Front Bottoms.
During the day, Anastasia works as an elementary school music teacher. Her superpowers include keeping new groups of students engaged musically, intellectually, and behaviorally in thirty-minute increments throughout the day. Interestingly enough, when you see her at a Flowerhead Folks show, she uses those same superpowers on the audience. As the true hype-woman for the band, Anastasia is always working the crowd to participate whenever possible, including leading any children who attend to play the tambourine and shakers on songs such as Blister In The Sun and I Love Rock 'n' Roll. She can also be found selling band merch and assuming any roles that require responsibility and financial management.
Anastasia loves being in a band with her best friends and growing as a musician with every performance. As a saxophonist (not a pianist), she proves that you do not need to be the best at something to do it anyway... A lesson she shares with her students daily.
If you ever see someone who looks like Anastasia living her best life in the crowd at shows, feel free to say hi to her identical twin Maya, The Flowerhead Folks' Number One Fan!
Scott Weber
Percussion - Electric Guitar - Vocals
Musical Influences: Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen, CCR, and Boston.
Born and raised on Long Island, Scott started developing his musical skills as early as 4th grade on trumpet, piano, and guitar. While pursuing a degree in Music Education at Hartwick College, Scott picked up drumming in a jazz combo and performing at receptions and fundraisers throughout the Catskill region. He joined an unofficial campus rock band with some of his peers, covering all of the classic rock hits. After earning a Master of Music degree from Five Towns College in Jazz/Commercial Music Composing and Arranging, Scott moved to Rochester, NY, to start his teaching career in the Rochester City School District, where he teaches Music Technology and Modern Band.
Scott is a founding member of The Flowerhead Folks. He firmly believes that his performance habits and routines uniquely impact his teaching strategies and continues to develop and expand these practices to influence the next generation of musicians. While running sound and lights from the back, Scott can be seen rocking a Ludwig Breakbeats by Questlove kit, for its compact design and punchy attack, ideal for any sized venue.
Steve Russell
Bass Guitar
Musical Influences: Jaco Pastorius
Steve originally joined The Flowerhead Folks as the band's sound engineer. His roles and responsibilities are constantly evolving as each venue provides its own set of challenges and nuances. When he isn't sitting behind the mixer, you can find him on stage, rocking the bass. Steve's bass prowess provides the band the ability to perform songs with two guitars while still having a bassist who can lay down a sweet bass line.
Tori Valente
Percussion
Musical Influences: Taylor Swift, Dave Matthews Band, Bon Iver, Sammy Rae & the Friends
Tori is a Rochester-based music educator and performing percussionist. Tori earned her Bachelor of Music and Master of Science in Music Education from Nazareth University. She started her teaching career in the Brockport CSD and is currently crafting the young minds of the Brockport High School Music Department. She also teaches the Hilton Winter Drumline & Crimson Cadets Marching Band.
From Long Island, New York, Tori started her musical endeavors in the 4th grade band. Her journey to drum set was fueled by her parents’ dreams of seeing her rock out in a bar band, and it seems the universe conspired to make that a reality! Whether she’s guiding young musicians or jamming out with the Folks, she loves performing and promoting the importance of live music and the arts in the Rochester community.
Guest Members
Joe Janover
Guest - Electric Guitar - Bass Guitar - Keyboards - Horns - Vocals
Musical Influences: The Beatles, Steely Dan, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, ABBA, Bruce Springsteen, and System of a Down.
In the summer of 2021, Joe moved to Rochester for his work in public schools and the musical theatre community. With a Bachelor's and Master's in Music Education from The Crane School of Music, Joe specializes in the “rhythm idiom” (keyboards, guitars, bass, drums/percussion) and utilizes such passions in the theatre music direction/pit orchestra context, songwriting/recording, and various musical collaborative experiences. Joe teaches in the Rochester City School District, teaching Music Technology and incorporating Modern Band elements into the curriculum.
Although always on the run for pit/church/various gigs and rehearsals, he’s honored to jam with such talented and humble musicians in FHF.
Oliver Smith
Guest - Electric Guitar - Bass Guitar - Puns - Vocals
Musical Influences: The Beatles
It is always a treat for the audience and the band when Oliver plays a Flowerhead Folks show. He always brings his top-notch frontman and lead guitar talents, but nothing beats the endless puns and dad jokes that break the awkward silence and give the band time to tune their instruments or change any settings for the next song.
Oliver has an M.S. in Music Education from Buffalo State and has played guitar for Rock, Jazz, Pit Orchestra, Classical, and Wedding groups since 2001.
Sean Smith
Guest - Electric Guitar
Musical Influences: From Foo Fighters to George Strait to Pat Metheny, and everything in between.
Sometimes it gets lonely being the only guitarist in the band. Thankfully, Sean likes to rack up those frequent flyer miles to travel to Rochester and form one of the best electric guitar duos in town.
After graduating from college with a degree in Jazz Performance, Sean moved from Chicago to Nashville. He began touring with established country music artists, including Big & Rich and the Muzik Mafia. He has received awards for film composition and a U.S. Department of Education Presidential Scholars Program Distinguished Teacher Award. While he has the accolades to live up to the term "ringer," Sean is happy trading solos and adding a little Southern twang to your favorite Flowerhead Folks covers.
